Pedestarian Safety Forum at Bailey's Elementary School Yesterday

There were about 50 people in attendance that came to the community forum Tuesday evening at the Bailey’s Elementary School Cafeteria.  The Fairfax County Police Department spoke about ‘Pedestrian Safety’.

Officer Green provided statistics based on pedestrian related accident crashes for the Mason District area. In 2011, there was 27. In 2012, there was 44 with a 62% change, and in 2013 there was 22 with a -50% change. Officer Green mentioned that they have 4 related pedestrian related accident crashes so far for 2014. 

Problems areas for the pedestrians include: 
•       RT 236/ Backlick Road 
•       RT 236 /Beauregard
•       RT 244/ Lacy Blvd 
•       RT 7/RT 50 over-pass

Most pedestrians are at risk during nighttime, when wearing dark clothing, jaywalking, intoxicated, or have a physical handicap. The overall goal for this forum was to think pedestrian safety and how that safety can be improved within the Mason District area.
